Diagnosis

Noninvasive

  • Electrocardiograms and 24-Hour Holter monitoring to evaluate heart rhythm
  • Echocardiograms to evaluate heart size and valves
  • Transesophageal echocardiograms to determine acuteness of heart disease.
  • Exercise testing with or without heart visualization to assess the possibility of blocked arteries
  • Non-exercise drug induced stress testing for those who cannot physically exercise to test for blocked arteries

Invasive

  • Heart catheterization using dye injected into blood vessels to find blockages, see valve function and measure heart muscle function
  • Electrophysiology to find the source of heart rhythm abnormalities
