2010 Schenectady County Farmers Market at Ellis Health Center

Ellis Medicine and Schenectady County have teamed up to bring the
Schenectady County Farmers Market to a new, central location at the
Ellis Health Center for the 2010 season.
The Market will operate every Tuesday through October 26, 2010 from 9:00 a.m.
until 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Ellis Health Center at the corner of
McClellan Street and Bradley Boulevard.
"This farmers' market is another great opportunity for people to buy locally
grown produce, plants, flowers and handmade items," said Chairwoman of the
Schenectady County Legislature Susan Savage.
In previous years, the Tuesday Market was located in the parking lot at St.
Luke's Church. The lot is now being used as a CDTA park and ride lot, so the
decision was made to utilize the large parking area that exists at the Ellis
Health Center (formerly known as St. Clare's Hospital.)
"Hosting a farmers' market at the Ellis Health Center is another way for
Ellis to meet the health care needs of our community," said Vice President of
Operations Patti Hammond. "Providing a home for the famers market supports the
mission of our Medical Home as we partner with the County to promote wellness
and build healthier communities."
The new Tuesday Market at the Ellis Health Center will participate in the
Special Supplemental
Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the Farmers Market
Nutrition Program (FMNP) and the Food Stamp program.
The Tuesday Market will offer customers a wide variety of local products
including vegetables, fruits, eggs, herbs and plants, flowers, jams, jellies,
fudge and many other items all handmade or grown by local artists and farmers.
Visa and MasterCard debit and credit cards are also accepted.
