Influenza Information - Seasonal Flu & the H1N1 Virus

Ellis Medicine has been working with Schenectady County Public Health Services and other local, state and federal agencies for over a year to prepare for the potential of a widespread swine flu outbreak.

Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself against influenza and H1N1. There are also some common sense practices you are encouraged to follow:

Good Hygiene is Essential

  • Hand Hygiene - use an alcohol-based hand cleaner or wash with soap and water frequently
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
  • Cough or sneeze into the bend of your arm when you don't have a tissue
  • Put tissues in a waste basket
  • Wash your hands after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose
  • Social Isolation: stay home when you have 2 or more symptoms (listed below)

Symptoms to watch for:

  • Fever of 100 degrees F or higher [37.8 degrees Celsius or higher]
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Body Aches
  • Nasal Congestion
