Stroke Center
Ellis is nationally recognized for outstanding stroke care and is a New York
State designated Primary Stroke Center. Our Stroke Team includes neurologists,
neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, physician assistants, registered nurses, and
clinicians from the hospital’s Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit, all
specially trained in caring for patients with stroke.
Every minute counts when treating a patient experiencing a stroke. Should you
or a loved one need emergency care, our Stroke Team is on call 24/7, ready to
respond immediately:
- Our Stroke Alert System assembles the hospital’s team for the rapid
evaluation of the patient who may be having a stroke;
- State-of-the-art imaging, including a 64-slice CT scanner, is available
for quick, accurate diagnosis;
- A clot-busting treatment option (t-PA) is available 24/7 for use with
ischemic stroke, and has the potential to improve the patient’s outcome;
- Ellis’ Neuro Intensive Care Unit, staffed by specially trained
nurses and supported by physician assistants, rehabilitative specialists and
case management staff, provides an exceptional environment for the
comprehensive care of our stroke patients.
National
Recognition
Ellis has received the Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award in
2010 from the American Stroke Association (ASA), This award
recognizes Ellis for its success in using the Get with the
Guidelines quality improvement program, and for achieving the
ASA's Gold Award two or more consecutive years (Ellis received
the Gold Award in 2009, 2008 and 2007). Ellis was the first
hospital in New York State, and among 12 in the nation, to be
honored with a Gold Award in 2007.

The Ellis Stroke Center also offers a monthly support group for stroke
