Nutrition and Exercise

Bariatric surgery can only lead to successful outcomes if a patient follows the recommended nutritional and exercise guidelines.

At Ellis Hospitals Bariatric Care Center, a registered dietician works with each patient to develop an individualized diet and exercise program that addresses his/her personal health goals. While everyone is different, there are some general guidelines that are suggested.

Healthy Eating Tips

  • Eat a variety of healthy foods
  • Focus on protein
  • Take the recommended supplements
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Follow the eating sequence recommended by your registered dietitian

Exercise Tips

Start small and go slow! When beginning an exercise program, its important not to overdo it. A moderate amount of activity can go a long way in burning calories and building muscle tone.

Walking is generally considered a safe and effective form of exercise. However, it will be important to follow your physician's recommendations, as each individual will have different challenges and risks.
